Govans is a historic area in North Baltimore City. At the height of the mid-20th century, Govans was a thriving shopping district and destination for people from all over Baltimore. In the 1970s, 80s and 90s, Govans experienced a decline as did many parts of Baltimore City. The area was also particularly hard hit by the recent foreclosure crisis. Govans is home to diverse housing stock, numerous faith-based institutions and small, family-owned businesses. Rebuilding Together Baltimore is dedicated to helping long-time residents to stay in their homes and promoting a healthier, thriving community.
